Development of Curriculum for Korean-Style Rehabilitation Medicine Residency Program in Central Asia
On August 7, 2020, the Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum Secretariat organized a meeting to report on the development of a rehabilitation medicine residency curriculum. The meeting was attended by officials and relevant figures from government and medical institutions, including the Presidential Committee on Northern Economic Cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare, and Seoul National University Hospital, as well as by the Kazakh Ambassador to the Republic of Korea. The Vice Rector of Asfendiyarov Kazakh National University of Medicine and other relevant figures in rehabilitation medicine in Kazakhstan also participated in the meeting virtually.

On the occasion of South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s visit to three Central Asian countries in April 2019, the Korea Foundation signed an MOU with Kyungpook National University Hospital and Asfendiyarov Kazakh National University of Medicine on health and medical cooperation to open a rehabilitation medicine program in Kazakhstan. As a follow-up measure to the MOU, Kyungpook National University Chilgok Hospital developed a rehabilitation medicine residency curriculum. The recent meeting was conducted to report the results of that curriculum development.

Such cooperation between Korea and Kazakhstan will serve as an exemplary case of health and medical projects customized to the need of Central Asian countries, greatly contributing to the promotion of exchange in the health and medical fields.
