Entitled “New Horizons: Envisioning a Better Tomorrow,” the forum was live streamed on the KF’s official YouTube channel. Participants from various fields and demographics gathered to discuss a desirable future and how to achieve it in a global, national, and local context, with emphasis on Korea and Jeju Island, home to KF headquarters.

The forum began with opening remarks by KF President Lee Geun’s, followed by congratulatory speeches by Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong and Dongguk University Chair Professor Kang Chang-il.

Day 1 of the forum featured a special session with Professor John Delury of the Graduate School of International Studies, Yonsei University; and Professor Nick Bostrom, Director of the Future of Humanity Institute at the University of Oxford and author of New York Times bestseller “Superintelligence,” twice chosen as one of the Foreign Policy Top 100 Global Thinkers. The session included an in-depth discussion on future-related issues humanity is facing and potential solutions.

Day 2 began with the Korea Session, featuring Choe Jae-chun, Professor, Division of EcoScience, Ewha Womans University; Lee Sang-yup, Professor, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, KAIST; Moon Chung-in, Special Advisor to President Moon Jae-in on Unification, Diplomacy and National Security Affairs; and Lee Soo-man, Chief Producer, SM Entertainment. They spoke on the future of climate and the environment, science, diplomacy and security affairs, and the cultural industry, respectively. Meanwhile, Seoul National University student Min Jun-hong attended the session as a youth representative, to talk about a future from the perspective of the next generation. The session was moderated by Professor Kim Hwa-jung of the Graduate School of International Studies, Ewha Womans University.

The Korea Session was followed by the Jeju Session, which featured five local experts: Kim Sang-yup, Director, Jeju Research Institute; Koh Eun-sook, President, Jeju Tourism Organization; Lee Seung-taeck, President, Jeju Foundation for Arts and Culture; Jeon Jeong-hwan, Director, Jeju Center for Creativity and Innovation; and Kim Jong-hyun, Director, Jeju Deo Keun Naeil Center.
