Palacký University to Open Masters Degree in Korean Language
A master's degree program in Korean language will open in September of this year at Palacký University/Univerzita Palackého V Olomouci in the Czech Republic, where the Korea Foundation has been dispatching Korean language professors since 2015. This new course of study is in line with the university's strong commitment to fostering Korean language academic programs with the Korea Foundation's continued support. Through the master's program, Palacký University will offer a wide range of courses on topics ranging from advanced Korean language classes to Korean linguistics, Korean language teaching methods, and Korean culture and history.

Palacký University is a public university established in 1573 and is the second oldest university in the Czech Republic. Its bachelor’s degree program in Korean Language for Business and Commerce first opened in 2015. A for-credit internship program placing students in Korean companies was established in 2018, and its new master's degree in Korean language will be available from this upcoming semester. Of particular note is the rise in the number of freshmen joining the university’s business Korean language department. Around 80 incoming students applied to the program in the 2015-16 academic year, but that number rose to 188 in 2018-19, showing rapid growth compared to other degree programs in the field of Asian Studies.
