Korean Studies/Language Programs at Adam Mickiewicz University and University of Wrocław in Poland Recorded Highest Competition for Admission
Under the Dispatch of Visiting Professors program, the Korea Foundation regularly selects and sends Korean scholars or experts in relevant areas to overseas universities, with the goal of opening or expanding regular courses in Korean studies or the Korean language. Currently, two visiting professors are working through this program at two Polish universities with independent Korean studies departments.

Located in Poznań, Poland, Adam Mickiewicz University reported that the Department of Korean Philology marked the highest ratio of competition for admission for the 2020-2021 academic year (26:1), followed by the Departments of Scandinavian/Norwegian Philology (22:1), Psychology (16:1), Law/Administration (14:1), and Japanese Philology (13:1).

Meanwhile, at the University of Wrocław in the southwest of Poland, a total of 525 students applied for admission to the Department of Korean Studies for the 2020 fall semester. With an admission quota of 35 students, this resulted in a competition ratio of 15:1, the highest among the school’s language and literature departments and third highest among its 101 departments. This remarkable achievement was made only two years after the Korean studies department’s opening.

In response to students’ passionate demand for Korean studies and language programs, the Korea Foundation will continue to lay the groundwork for Korean studies abroad through a variety of programs.
